What we cover
Most camera projects we take on are about seeing who comes and goes:
- Front doors, side gates, and driveways at homes
- Lobby entrances, package rooms, and elevator landings in buildings
- Storefronts, back doors, and parking areas at businesses
- Gate lanes, so a visitor's arrival can be matched with the intercom call
Building and commercial camera systems
For condos, apartment buildings, and offices, we usually look at platforms that connect cameras to how the building already handles entry. UniFi Protect records locally to a UniFi console or NVR without a required recording subscription, and is managed separately from UniFi Access door control. ButterflyMX Security Cameras link footage to door and gate events through a ButterflyMX Camera Gateway with cloud storage. Akuvox VC50B and VC50T cameras are 5MP PoE units with ONVIF support that pair naturally with Akuvox intercoms.
ENS Security's Emerald and ENS-H series cover IP dome, turret, bullet, and PTZ cameras with matching NVR and DVR recorders — a practical route when a property wants local recording on a dedicated recorder, including some sites upgrading older analog setups.
Digital Watchdog (DW) offers IP security cameras, recording systems (NVRs and DVRs), and DW Spectrum video management software, which brings multiple cameras and recorders into one viewing and search interface. It can suit multi-camera buildings and commercial sites that want an on-site recorder; we review the specific models, licensing, and compatibility with your existing cameras before recommending it.
Residential camera options
At homes, cameras are usually chosen to match the doorbell and app the household already uses. Ring and Google Nest cameras are app-first and rely on paid plans for saved video or longer history. eufy and Reolink lean toward local storage on a card, HomeBase, or NVR, with optional cloud add-ons.
Tapo offers plug-in and battery camera options managed in the Tapo app, with local storage on supported cameras or hubs and optional paid Tapo Care cloud recording. Arlo offers battery and powered camera options in the Arlo Secure app; cloud video history on current cameras requires a paid plan, while compatible SmartHub setups can provide local storage. We check each model's power, network, hub, and recording requirements before recommending either system.
Other commercial camera platforms
Axis, Avigilon, and Verkada are often considered for larger or multi-site properties. They differ in recording architecture (on-site servers versus cloud-managed cameras), licensing, and how they integrate with access control. We review the specific models and licensing before recommending one, and we don't assume every product in a lineup fits your site.
Recording, storage, and subscriptions
Footage can be saved on a local recorder, on a memory card in the camera, in the cloud, or a mix. Local recording avoids ongoing fees but needs a secure place for the recorder; cloud plans add remote backup and smart alerts for a monthly cost. We'll explain both before you choose.
Network and power
Wired PoE cameras get power and data over one cable and are the most reliable choice for businesses and buildings. Wi-Fi and battery cameras are simpler to place at homes but depend on signal strength and charging. We check your network capacity and where cable can realistically run.
Privacy and placement
We aim cameras at your own property and shared areas the association controls, and avoid pointing them into neighbors' windows. Florida law limits audio recording without consent, so we're careful about which cameras record sound.

Compatibility considerations
Not every product fits every door or property. These are the things we check first:
- Wired cameras need a cable path; finished ceilings and stucco walls affect cost.
- Wi-Fi cameras need strong signal where they're mounted.
- Cloud recording and smart alerts usually carry a monthly subscription.
- Associations may restrict cameras on common elements or exterior walls.
What to send us
A few details help us check compatibility before we recommend anything:
- The areas you want to see: doors, gates, lobby, parking
- Whether you prefer local recording, cloud storage, or both
- Your internet provider and where the router sits
- Any association rules about exterior cameras
Common questions
- Do I need a monthly subscription?
- Not always. Many systems record locally with no fee; cloud storage and some smart features are subscription-based.
- Can cameras work with my intercom or access system?
- Some platforms show camera video alongside door events. It depends on the specific products, so we confirm before recommending a combination.
- Will they work if the internet goes down?
- Cameras recording to a local recorder keep recording; remote viewing returns when the connection does.
- Which cameras work with ButterflyMX or Akuvox intercoms?
- ButterflyMX offers its own cameras through a Camera Gateway that can also connect some existing ONVIF cameras. Akuvox VC50B/VC50T cameras support ONVIF and RTSP. We confirm the exact combination before quoting.
- Do Ring and Google Nest cameras need a plan?
- Live view and alerts work without one, but saved video on Ring and longer history on Google Nest require each company's paid subscription.
- Is UniFi Protect the same as UniFi Access?
- No. UniFi Protect is Ubiquiti's camera and recording line; UniFi Access controls doors. They can share a console but are installed and licensed separately.
- Do you offer alarm monitoring?
- No. We install and set up cameras; we don't provide monitored alarm service.
