A camera layout built around your home
Start with what you need to see: a visitor approaching the front door, a side gate, or activity on the driveway. We plan mounting height and viewing angles around those approaches, avoiding neighboring windows. For condos and townhomes, association approval comes before mounting on exterior walls or common elements.
- Entry paths and driveway coverage
- Mounting on stucco, block, or wood
- Outdoor rating and exposure for the selected model
- Privacy and association restrictions
Power, Wi-Fi, and hub compatibility
Tapo has plug-in cameras as well as battery-powered and solar-compatible options. Network bands, power supplies, and hub requirements differ by model. We check signal at the actual mounting point and confirm whether your camera connects directly to Wi-Fi or uses a compatible Tapo hub. A solar accessory must match the camera and have a suitable location; it isn't a promise of unlimited battery life.
Local recording or Tapo Care
Supported Tapo cameras can save video locally to a microSD card, while compatible hub-based setups can store footage on the hub. Tapo Care offers paid cloud recording for supported devices. Card capacity, recording modes, and cloud availability vary, so we check the exact camera and hub combination before recommending storage. Battery cameras should not be assumed to provide continuous recording.
Installation and Tapo app handoff
We mount the cameras securely, route any power leads neatly, and add the devices to your Tapo app. Setup includes supported detection zones, alerts, recording schedules, and household sharing. We test live view and recorded playback with you, then show you how to find clips, maintain storage, and recharge batteries where needed. Your account stays under your control.
Requesting an assessment
Send photos of the areas you want to cover, the camera and hub models you're considering or already own, and how you want to record video. We'll review placement, power, connectivity, and storage before scheduling installation.
Questions about Tapo
- Do Tapo cameras need a subscription?
- Local recording on supported cameras and storage hardware does not require Tapo Care. Tapo Care cloud recording is a paid option; available features depend on the device and plan.
- Does every Tapo camera need a hub?
- No. Many connect directly to Wi-Fi, while some setups use a compatible Tapo hub. Send the model numbers so we can check the combination.
- Can a battery camera record all day?
- Do not assume it can. Recording modes vary by model; battery cameras commonly record events. We verify continuous-recording support and power requirements if that matters to you.
- Can you install cameras I already own?
- Yes, subject to a fit and compatibility check. Send the camera model, photos of the mounting locations, and any hub or storage details.
- What happens without internet?
- Supported local-storage cameras can continue recording after setup if power and the required local connection remain available. Remote viewing and cloud features need internet. We check the behavior of your selected setup.
