What we install
An August lock replaces the interior thumbturn of your deadbolt. Many customers also add an August keypad outside so guests and service providers can enter with a code instead of an app.
Deadbolt and door compatibility
August says its locks work with most single-cylinder deadbolts and publishes a compatibility list. Double-cylinder deadbolts, multipoint locks, and some decorative hardware won't work. Door alignment matters too — a bolt that drags will drain batteries and jam.

Access management
From the August app you can share access with household members and send guest access that's permanent, recurring, or temporary, and review a history of who came and went. A keypad adds code-based entry for people without the app.
Connectivity
The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock connects directly to home Wi-Fi without a separate bridge; some older August models need a Connect bridge for remote access. We check signal at the door and set up auto-lock and the included door sensor.
Backup entry
Because August keeps your existing deadbolt, your physical key still works if batteries run down or a phone isn't available. We'll show you low-battery alerts and how to replace batteries.

- It's designed for many single-cylinder deadbolts. Send a photo of both sides of the lock so we can check before you buy.
- Do I keep my keys?
- Yes. August installs on the inside, so your existing key cylinder stays.
- Does it need Wi-Fi?
- The Wi-Fi model connects directly for remote access. Bluetooth functions work nearby without internet.
- Can guests get a code?
- With an August keypad, yes. Otherwise guests receive app-based access.
